1/21 PRE-ELECTION REGULATIONS

Owing to the upcoming local elections scheduled to be held on 6 May 2021, elected members of Ryde Town Council were reminded of their obligation to observe the pre-election period (Purdah) regulations. It was therefore important to recognise that the annual meeting was specifically convened to update Ryde residents on the events and activities within the town during the previous 12 months and was not a forum for any debate.

The Youth Work Manager presented a video report of the past years activities which saw the Covid 19 pandemic present several challenges for the service. These included launching a Virtual Youth Club which provided many activities for the towns young people to get involved with.

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards continued to run and there were some testimonials from some of the recipients provided.

The Youth Workers of Network Ryde also assisted in the important running of the Covid Response Team which helped vulnerable residents in the Town in obtaining medication and vital food supplies. A Covid Awareness Poster Competition was also organised where young people designed posters which were placed throughout the town, and which was supported by the local Police.

Well-being sessions were also initiated which helped address anxieties and pressures experienced by many young residents during the pandemic.

A flower market was also set up in Minghella Square which raised £359 toward the Network Ryde Allotment Project and an allotment in Quarry Road was acquired to provide further activities.

Christmas Lanterns were also created for the “Merry and Bright” event as well as a Christmas Card competition for the mayor’s charity.

St Thomas’s Church was finally acquired with the medium term aim of moving Network Ryde into the building, providing a new and exciting home for the services and for the towns young people to visit.
