RYDE TOWN COUNCIL MEETING OF FULL COUNCIL 26 MARCH 2024

RYDE UPDATE – MARCH 2024

Over the last three months the team have been allocated 116 investigations across the North East Wight area. They have been working really hard to achieve excellent outcomes for the victims of these crimes and have managed to secure positive outcomes for 42.4 percent of these. This is an exceptionally high level of performance.

In terms of persistent issues, we are seeing in Ryde there is general Anti-Social Behaviour (ABS) around the Ryde Super Bowl and along the Esplanade in the evenings. I will be allocating most of the teams resources to work on this over our coming late shifts. To look at this from a long term problem solving issue. I will be looking to task our ‘design out crime’ team to look at ways of making the area around the Ryde Superbowl less attractive to young people looking to engage in ASB.

We do continue to see offences being reported at Ryde Harbour. The key to this for me is security on the access to points to the pontoons which I believe is a work in progress and I am hoping this will resolve those issues when complete.

In terms of crime in the area this remains low, and we are not seeing any series of crimes being reported or protracted issues. We continue to deal with shop lifting offences robustly and have sent a number offenders to court for this over the last few months.

We are tracking some of our regular offenders by the use of Community Protection Notices and have a number of these active in Ryde at the moment. Breaches of these notices will be the first steps to securing a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which is similar to the old ASBO.

We have a big drive on at the moment for our ‘Let’s Talk’ Campaign which is a community survey where people can have their say on what is important to them where they live. We would ask that members of the community are directed to the survey at every opportunity. Details of the scheme can be found using this link below:
